Basic Stance

Definition Front View Side View
Clubhead:

Centered on target line in the center of the stance. The leading edge of the clubface is square to target line (perpendicular).

Shaft:

Straight line from leading shoulder to clubhead.

On plane and in line with center of trailing forearm. Also parallel to underside of leading arm and end of shaft points to leading armpit.

Wrists / Hands: Thumbs parallel with respective forearms (I.e. Leading thumb to leading forearm, trailing thumb to trailing forearm). Back of leading hand square to plane. All trailing fingertips are visible and trailing hand is rotated approximately 45 degrees.

Leading wrist slightly higher than trailing wrist.

Arms: Leading arm fully extended (not locked). Trailing arm slightly bent at elbow and in front of trailing hip.

Leading arm parallel to shaft. Top of leading forearm visible and slightly higher than trailing forearm. Leading arm fully extended but not locked. Trailing arm slightly bent at elbow and just out of locked position.

Shoulders: Leading shoulder slightly higher than trailing shoulder.

Head / Torso: Head tilted with spine. Spine is tilted in direction of trailing shoulder and outside of leading shoulder in line with inside of leading knee. Outside trailing shoulder in line with outside of trailing knee.

Head in line with spine and body tilted forward from hips far enough that it is sufficient for arms to swing freely.

Hips: Leading hip slightly higher than trailing hip.

Legs / Knees: Straight line from hip socket to ankle of each leg.

Knees flexed, just out of locked position and parallel to target line.

Feet: Square to target line and not flared and wider than trunk. Weight distribution slightly favors trailing side.
