Incorporate release into horizontal drill to impact drill.
Demonstrate proper club release on plane.
Show trailing arm extension and leading arm folding past impact.
Demonstrate how both elbows fold during swing. First the trailing and then the leading.
Demonstrate arm generated body motion.
Club
Any.
Ball position
No ball.
Swing length
Swing back until leading arm is parallel to target line.
Swing forward past impact until trailing arm is parallel to target line.
Steps
Assume setup.
Lift arms until club is directly in front of body horizontal to ground.
Make sure arms and club are in line and spine tilt to trailing side is maintained.
Swing leading arm back while rotating leading forearm until leading arm is parallel to target line. Let wrists hinge until club is at 90 degree angle to leading arm.
At end of backswing, check that leading arm and club are still on plane, horizontal to ground and clubface is pointing directly toward the sky.
Swing forward past setup position allowing leading arm to fold until trailing arm is extended across body, parallel to target line, and clubface is pointing directly towards the ground.
During drill leading arm maintains relaxed extension from backswing to forward swing and then folds past impact. Trailing arm folds during backswing straightens into impact and remains extended past impact with clubface facing directly at the ground.
At completion of swing, hold finish position for a count of three and go over these following checkpoints:
Club and arms still horizontal to ground.
Leading arm folded.
Trailing arm extended and in line with club.
Leading edge of clubface square to plane.
Body square to target line.
Spine tilt to trailing side maintained.
Leading knee over leading foot. Weight predominantly on leading side.
Both feet still flat on the ground.
Variations
This drill can be done on any plane at a variety of angles to the ground between horizontal drill plane and actual swing plane.
Done slowly this drill shows how clubface stays square through impact prior to rotation.
